NEUCBA2 Mobile Web Design Case Study: What We Like About Northeastern College of Business Administration
In our last profile of “What We Like About…” a specific Bluetrain Mobile customer’s mobile website, we highlighted Retail Systems Research. This time we’re going to take a closer look at “What We Like About” the Northeastern College of Business Administration mobile website that we created and host. You can view their mobile version & traditional website, and if you are visiting the traditional site from an iPhone smartphone, you will automatically be directed to the mobile version.  (Android and all other major smartphone operating systems coming shortly!).

Also, see the recent press release by Northeastern College of Business Administration about the mobile optimized website.

Back Story

Northeastern University’s College of Business Administration (CBA) saw the need for a mobile website when they looked at their website analytics data and as they gathered feedback from their website visitors.

Northeastern’s CBA wanted a mobile website to serve the dual purpose of providing accessible content to mobile users, as well as ensure that they did not miss out on opportunities to generate new information requests from prospective students (i.e. lead generation!). The college’s marketing team understood as well, that as prospective students and others came to the campus, they were more frequently searching for supplementary information on their smartphones. Northeastern wanted to use that opportunity to capture the imagination and interest of visitors.

Navigation

Using The Bluetrain Mobile content management system, we created a multi-layered website navigation that is intuitive and simple.

Let’s say I’m a prospective graduate school student who has just accessed the Northeastern CBA website from their iPhone. If I wanted to learn about a High-Tech MBA, I would follow the site map from “Prospective Students”, “Graduate”, “MBA” then “High-Tech MBA” (see screen shots below).

The fluid menu controls give the website an intuitive navigation, and make it easy for mobile users to quickly access information in manageable chunks.

Live Events Feed

The events page on the mobile site is kept fresh with a data feed directly from the College’s website using the content management system that powers the College of Business Administration’s “traditional” (aka, desktop) website. This means that no maintenance is required to keep the Events page updated on the mobile website; it all happens automatically from the desktop website.

Optimized Home Page Layout

Northeastern’s College of Business website is just one of our many examples of custom designs we have created here at Bluetrain Mobile. We worked closely with the Northeastern CBA marketing team to develop a mobile home page and menu structure that represents the Northeastern branding, messaging, and allows easy access to the most necessary pages of the mobile website.

The design of the mobile website is tailored to the College’s needs.

Marketers will find that the Bluetrain Mobile platform is perfect for managing content within the guidelines and needs of their own brand and business objectives (we call it a “Mobile Marketing Engine”, to go along with our train theme!).

Have any thoughts about the Northeastern College of Business mobile website? Let’s hear them, good or bad.
